August 2026 - Responding to a Property Emergency

Chris Laney joined us at GLASC this month to help us think differently about being prepared for a property emergency, and he gave us plenty to think about.

He challenged us with a simple question:

What’s your plan when it’s 3:00 a.m. and water is suddenly coming through the ceiling?

Do you know who is responsible for what? Do you have a plan in place? And most importantly, are you prepared to document the damage?

Chris really drilled down on the importance of documentation. We only have one opportunity to tell the story of a loss accurately. Taking photos and documenting what you see immediately can save a tremendous amount of time, confusion, and headaches down the road.

We were also challenged to think through roles and responsibilities before disaster strikes. When damage happens, everyone should know who is calling whom, who is documenting the loss, who is communicating with the team, and who is coordinating the response.

Emergencies aren't the time to figure out your plan.

The best time to build your property emergency plan is before you need it.
