March 14, 2007 Meeting Minutes

bulletMeeting called to order at 12:18 p.m. by Paul Felkey.
bulletEmergency procedures and restrooms.
bulletSign in sheets.
bulletIntroductions.
bulletPaul thanked Mike Madrid & Chris Rossiter for hosting last months meeting.  Paul also thanked Elaine Doss & Ivy Tech for providing lunch and the use of their facility.

 

New Business: 

bulletTreasurer’s Report: $3,331.04.  37 paid members for 2007.
bulletWeb site status.
bulletSusan Hayenga with Tate and Lyle had extra cold & flu pamphlets if anyone was interested.
bulletRea Magnet Wire is hosting an OSHA 10 hour class.  It will be of no cost – space is limited.  Rea Magnet’s corporate safety officer would like to host a future meeting.
bulletOur next meeting is April 18th @ 12:00 hosted by Chemtura & Donna Majewski.  The topic will be respirator fit testing.

 

Presentation:

bulletSIA’s hot work procedure.  Fires and explosions kill more than 200 and injure more than 5,000.
bulletYELLOW PERMIT (doesn’t include)    ORANGE PERMIT (includes)

All other areas are yellow.                      Paint Shop, Paint Shop Roof,

                                                             Touch Up Rooms.

bulletHot work must be a last resort.
bulletObtain from security base & complete with all necessary signatures.
bulletAll flammable & combustible materials must be removed with 35’ (wood pallets, paper, Styrofoam, plastic totes, etc.)
bulletIf materials cannot be moved, they must be covered with weld tarp or blanket rated at a minimum of 1000°F.
bullet20# ABC fire extinguisher must be within arms reach.
bulletAn employee not involved in hot work must act as a fire watch.
bulletSafety performs the inspection.
bulletInspect hot work equipment.
bulletFlammable liquids.
bulletOil/grease
bulletLint/dirt/dust
bulletRubber residue
bulletWalls – dust/rubber
bulletFire watch must remain in area for 1 – 2 hours after hot work is completed.
           Fire incident form must be completed & returned to security if fire occurs.
 
Meeting concluded at 1:00 p.m.
