Presentation:

bullet

* Dr. Joseph Sliwkowski, M.D.

* 3 principles:

- Healthcare practice should be evidence based and outcomes driven.

- Primary focus should be on patient.

- Providers should be paid based on the results that they get, not

the procedures that they do.

* Increasing costs to employers to maintain function & productivity in an aging workforce.

* Increasing number of the OSHA reportable injuries are a direct result of an aggravation of

pre-existing, silent degenerative disorders.

* Most degenerative disorders are not directly attributable to the employees work, but to their lifestyle.

* Chronic disease is now the principle cause of disability & use of health services & consumes 78%

of health expenditures.

* We are not re-inventing the wheel.

* We are not improving workers comp system…we are reducing its burden.

* We are not providing a new source of expenditure in ergonomics…we are enhancing its results.

* Promoting wellness in the workplace.

*Presenteeism:  on the job, but not functioning.

* True Health Care Costs:

- OSHA reportable injuries.

- Workers comp claims.

- FMLA

- Short Term Disability

- Presenteeism

- Lost Productivity

 - Lost Worktime

* James Pucka, D.C., L.Ac.

* Posture affects & moderates everything.

* Nervous system controls & coordinates all organs, & structures of the human body.

* What is health?

* All functions of the body require energy.

 100% Energy

90% Posture

10% Runs Mental Functions

* Forward Head Posture causes:

 - Headaches, TMJ, & neck pain.

 - Rotator cuff damage.

 - Thoracic outlet syndrome.

 - Disc decay & bulging.

 - Degenerative arthritis, spurs.

 - Lateral & medial epicondylitis.

 - Radial, cubital, & carpal tunnel syndromes.

 - Deformed ligaments, muscle spasms, & stretched blood vessels.

 - Adverse impact on general health, physical, emotional, social function, & pain tolerance.

* Poor posture causes the spine to rot away.  It is not a process of normal aging.

* Back pain is the leading cause of work absenteeism of individuals between the ages of 19 & 45.

* The average cost of an industrial back injury in the U.S. is in excess of $24,000.00.  With surgical

cases with indemnity costs, this amount can exceed $500,000.00.

* Approximately 50% of working age individuals state that they have had low back pain in any given year.

* Action Steps.

 - Risk stratification needs analysis.

 - Red flag screening to triage the at risk population.

 - Biomechanical analysis.

* Our Services (pre-OSHA measures):

 - Postural screenings.

 - Wellness physicals.

 - Nutritional counseling.

* Expected Results:

 - Reduce OSHA reportable injuries & associated costs.

 - Reduce "days lost" from reportable & non-reportable injuries.

 - Increase worker productivity & satisfaction.

 - Reduction of future costs by identification & elimination of risk factors

associated with specific disease entities known to cost the workers

compensation system significant dollars.

* How Much Will It Cost?

 - Individually tailored to the company based on your needs.

 - Risk stratification analysis.

 - At the minimum, you will have a net zero expense for implementation.

* How Long Until We See Results?:

 - We expect direct savings compared to baseline cost analysis within at least 6 months.

 - Value added outcomes.  See increase in productivity, performance, & positivity.

 - If program produces no savings, it can be annulled at any time.

Meeting concluded at 1:40 p.m.
