Next GLASC Meeting

Our next regular meeting will be September 14 at 1 pm, sponsored by Major Tracey Brown & the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Dept.
         

August Meeting Minutes

August 10, 2005
Meeting was called to order by Paul Felkey.
Paul thanked Susan Hayenga and Tate & Lyle for hosting this month’s meeting.
Emergency Procedures.
Sign in sheets.
Introductions.
Paul thanked Mark Kirby & TEMA for hosting last month’s meeting.
 

Old Business:

October & November are still available to host.  If anyone is interested, please contact Paul Felkey or Michele Baker.

New Business:

Treasurers Report = $3,381.01.  Two new members have joined GLASC since our last meeting.  They are Endocyte and Tuthill Transport Technologies.

Elizabeth Mills is retiring from maintaining the GLASC website at the end of the year.  We are looking for someone to take over.  More information is to come.

Our next meeting is September 14th @ 1:00 at the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department.  Major Tracey Brown will be presenting a bomb squad demo.

We are still planning December’s meeting.  If anyone has a suggestion for a speaker and topic, please contact Paul Felkey or Michele Baker.

Paul introduced this month’s speaker – Barry Sanders with Aearo Company on Hearing Conservation.

bulletHazardous noise is the most common safety hazard faced by U.S. workers.
bulletLong term exposure:
6 – 10 years through audiology testing
bulletWarning signs:
Asking others to repeat themselves.
Turning your head to one side while listening.
Avoid social gatherings.
Difficulty on phone.
Ringing or buzzing in ear – “Tinnitus”
bulletSelf test:
Set car radio at the lowest volume level that you can hear just before you turn off the engine.
After work, see how much you have to increase volume.
bulletChecking the fit:
Annual audiometric testing.
Checking the fit every time.
bulletBest Check:
After inserting earplugs, step into noisy environment.
Cup your hands & place over ears.
Noise levels in the 90 – 100 dB area are just loud enough to hurt you.
bulletProtector styles:
Foam earplugs.
Ultra fit & Push-Ins (re-usable)
Earmuffs.
