Paul introduced Mark Kirby with TEMA.

Feature Presentation:
Mark gave background
information on himself. He has been in law enforcement since the late
1970’s in various capacities.
History of emergency
management – started out in the cold war as the civil defense. Changed over
to emergency management in the 1980’s. The county Hazmat team was formed
under the emergency management in the 1990’s.
The state is divided up into
various districts. Tippecanoe County is in District 4.
Whenever the national threat
level is raised, Mark meets with the Chiefs of Police to discuss the
situation.
TEMA has 50 active
volunteers.
Eric Deets is the Director of
Indiana Homeland Security and lives here locally.
Tim Batta is the Assistant
Director for TEMA. He retired from the Lafayette Fire Department after 25
years.
Mark’s mission is a little
bit different than his predecessor, as he waits until he is called & needed
by other agencies. This keeps TEMA out of the way so other agencies can do
their jobs. TEMA is there to ASSIST the other agencies in anyway they need
help.
We then went to TEMA’s T-27 building which
is located next to the new jail and was given an overview & an opportunity
to look at their vehicles and equipment.
