Next GLASC Meeting

Our next meeting will be held at the Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. Training and Reception Center Auditorium in Lafayette on Wednesday December 8, 2004 at noon.  The host will be Mettam Safety Supply; topic - NFPA 70E Clothing Classifications & Tooling; speaker TBA.  Lunch will be provided, please RSVP to Paul Felkey, 449-6234 or email paul.felkey@subaru-sia.com.
         

December Meeting Minutes

Our annual December luncheon meeting was held at the Outpost Banquet Facilities.   Paul called the meeting to order at 12:45pm.

GLASC thanked the Indiana Veteran’s Home for hosting the November meeting and IDEM for their presentation.

Old Business:

None.

New Business:

The treasurer’s report was given and there is $3,233.00 in the GLASC account.   The yearly audit will take place in January.

The April 13th meeting has been cancelled due to the ASSE Conference that is being held on the 13th and 14th of April at the University Inn Conference Center.  We will be discussing possible vendor participation at our January meeting.

The election of new officers took place: Paul Felkey  - President; Joyce Peterson – Vice President; Andrew Parker – Treasurer; Michele Baker – Secretary; John Dougherty – Trustee.  The oath of office was given by Denny Smith – Trustee.

January’s meeting will be held at SIA on the 12th at noon, lunch will be provided.  Please RSVP either Paul Felkey at paul.felkey@subaru-sia.com or Michele Baker at micheleb@hustonelectric.com

The board meeting will be held at Monical’s on the 6th of January at 11:00am.

Feature Presentation:  

Today’s meeting was hosted by Kathy Frederick of Simplex Grinnell with the presentation given by Michael Crafton of Facilities Management.

Today’s topic was a discussion of  safety and protection of your investment through Plant cleanliness.

Safety:  Over 30% of workers injuries are slip related.  Falls are the 2nd leading cause of accidental death.

Contamination & Health:  About 10% of Americans are allergic to some component of dust.  A major source of indoor air pollutants is dust that is carried in on shoes.

Depreciation:  9 out of 10 computer system failures are caused by dirt & dust.  A buildup of .042 inches of dust on a heating or cooling coil can decreased efficiency by 21%.

Housekeeping/Maintenance Costs:  80% of the dust, dirt, and grime in bldgs is tracked in from outside.  The estimated cost of removing a single pound of dirt could exceed $500.00.
