September Meeting Minutes

The meeting of the GLASC was called to order by Paul Felkey at 1:05 pm.

Old Business:

Paul thanked Donna Majewski and Great Lakes Chemical for hosting this months meeting. Paul also thanked Virgina Peck of Ball Corporation and Heritage Group for last months meeting.  Paul noted that the Tour of the plant and the presentation were great.  The lunch was great too.

New Business:

Nominees for the GLASC Council need to be turned in next month.  The vote for new officers will take place in November with the swearing in of the new officers at the December meeting.  Paul asked everyone to please send in nominations.

The December meeting does not have a presenter yet.

Larry Lucas of Eli Lilly noted that he has not received any RSVP’s for October’s meeting.  The reminders will go out to all members next week.

Joyce will send out the information regarding the ASSE conference this week.

Feature Presentation:

Rite-Hite Corporation’s presentation for our meeting today, covered Loading and Unloading Dock Safety. Paul thanked both Rite Hite and Donna @ Great Lakes Chemical for today’s meeting.

The loading dock is considered a danger zone.  It is a busy area, and the 4’ drop off is considered a danger zone.  There is limited communication, people are located on the inside and out.  Many truck drivers are in a hurry to drop off or pick up their loads.

Twenty-five percent of accidents happen at the loading dock.  Rite Hite presented an over view of what hazards are present on the loading docks and what preventative measures can be taken in order to make the dock a safer place.

If anyone has questions regarding this subject they can e-mail Rite Hite Corporation at www.ritehite.com

The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 pm.

Executive Board News

The next GLASC executive board meeting will be on Thursday, October 7, 2004 at the Hunter’s Pub located on Creasy Lane at 11:30 am.
