Next GLASC Meeting

GLASC’s next meeting will be on January 14th time and place to be announced.

     

December Meeting Minutes

The December meeting was held on the 10th at the Trails Banquet Facility.    Jack Koogler of BUSET spoke on the Top 25 Industry Safety Violations.

The meeting started at 12:00 pm and Paul Felkey welcomed everyone to the Greater Lafayette Area Safety Council meeting.  He announced that 2003is the 23rd year of the GLASC.
 

Old Business:
E-mail addresses are needed for all future correspondence.  All invoices, newsletters, and company mem
bership information will be sent out electronically in 2004.  Please let Joyce Peterson mailto:joycep@hustonelectric.com know your e-mail address to update the GLASC database..

New Business:

A sign up sheet for 2004 meetings was passed around.   Anyone interested in hosting a meeting or presenting a topic please contact any of the Officers and they will pass this information along.

Invoices for 2004 dues will be sent out electronically and through the mail and will remain at $35/company.  Also, if you bring in a new paying member for 2004 your companies dues will be waived for 2005.

The 2003 Officers were thanked for all of their hard work in 2003.  Michelle Levell – the outgoing Secretary of GLASC 2003, then swore in the 2004 Officers.  She was presented with a gift certificate for her work in 2002-2003.

Paul Felkey asked the members for ideas on promoting better attendance at our meetings.  There were several recommendations.

Elizabeth Mills will continue to maintain the GLASC website.  She does a great job!

  1. Hazardous Communications Written Program, Training, Labeling

  2. No PPE Assessment and employer must enforce the rules

  3. LOTO Program in writing

  4. LOTO Procedures not being audited by someone other than supervisor ANNUALLY

  5. Live Exposed Electrical Parts

  6.  The use of flex cords for fixed locations

  7. Machine guarding – lathe, bandsaw, point of operation, fan

  8.  Forklift Operator Training

  9. Forklift Inspection

  10. Wheel Chocks

  11. Voltage not being marked on control panels

  12. Control panels being blocked

  13.  No guarding of belts, pulleys, rotating sprockets and shafts less than seven feet from the ground

  14. OSHA 300 log

  15. Press inspection

  16. Portable fire extinguishers

  17.  Handrails and toe boards on platforms missing

  18. Grinders and abrasive wheels not adjusted correctly

  19. No Emergency Action Plan in writing

  20. No exit signs on doors

  21. Housekeeping

  22. Stairs

  23. Portable ladders

  24. General Duty Clause

  25. Eyewash stations not being maintained
