Next GLASC Meeting

Our next meeting is June 11th  on Workplace Violence with Dan Larson and the location is yet to be determined.

March Meeting Minutes

The March meeting was held on the 13th at SIA.  John Dougherty welcomed everyone to the Greater Lafayette Area Safety Council meeting and thanked Michelle Levell for providing the facility for the meeting.

Old Business:

Last month’s meeting minutes are posted on the website.  The meeting minutes were approved.  Several organizations still have not paid their $35.00 Annual Membership fee for GLASC.  Please send that in as soon as possible (see the legend at the bottom of the members page)

New Business:

Donna Majewski, President of the Hoosier Safety Council, wanted everyone to know that all of the speaker sessions are full for the 17th Annual HSC.  So check it out   www.hoosiersafetycouncil.org.   GLASC will have a booth at the 17th Annual HSC and we will need volunteers to work the booth and volunteers to moderate the different sessions at the HSC.  If you volunteer to moderate 2 sessions in one day you get free entry into the conference for that day.  Joyce Peterson will be GLASC’s liason to help communicate between HSC & Lafayette.  Everyone in GLASC does receive the member rate to attend the 17th Annual Hoosier Safety Conference in West Lafayette.  Donna also mentioned that Northern Illinois University is forming an outreach center and you can now order CFR books on-line.

Kristen Huber , GLASC Trustee has left Lafayette to pursue other opportunities.  Andy Parker of Caterpillar has been elected to the new GLASC Trustee position.

Feature Presentation:

Scott Defenbaugh of Workplace Safety Solutions out of Danville, Illinois presented our feature topic – Permit Required Confined Space Rescue.  Scott has 11 years experience and is a volunteer member of a rescue team.

Scott stressed that one of the most important questions when you are determining whether you need a confined space rescue team is “how long is it going to take to retrieve someone?”  if you have to call an outside rescue agency.  Also he mentioned that if you do contract someone to perform your confined space rescues you are still responsible to make sure that the team is trained and is safe.  Scott handed out a packet of materials to follow along with his presentation.
