The June meeting
was hosted by ROCC (Regional Occupational Care Center) now located at
Unity. Thanks to ROCC for a great lunch!
The attendance sheet was routed
with an emphasis to update e-mail addresses. We are still receiving error
messages on some e-mails, so please update your address if needed!
Paul started the meeting by
reviewing last months meeting minutes (which were very vague due to the
Hoosier Safety Conference and the council not meeting. The last time
the group met was at SIA with a presentation on Work Place Violence.

Executive committee meeting
members discussed these issues:
-
NSC membership. We (the
council) pay dues every year and receive no benefit from this
organization. The council agreed to discontinue this membership.
Donna Majewski motioned...Roger Jenkins second the motion.
-
Update on the Hoosier Safety
Conference from Donna Majewski: CPC met last Thursday. The
over all feedback on the conference was very positive. The move
from Indy to West Lafayette Cumberland Center did not have an impact
on the conference. We did see the number of companies attend
remain the same, however the actual headcount from companies had a
reduction. Exhibitors had very positive feedback. Availability
of phones was greatest complaint. Room layout improvements
necessary. 2003 HSC location is yet to be determined. Members of
the CPC group are looking for members to work different committees.
Please contact Donna Majewski if interested.
Thanks for the update Donna!

Future GLASC meetings......
November 13th is still open! The next meeting (July 10th) will be at
Eli Lilly. The topic is Fall Protection Training and Demonstration
by Trevor Taylor of Taylor Sales.
Paul shared information pertaining to Eli Lilly receiving a Safety Award
from the Chamber of Commerce. Specific safety criteria must be met
to obtain this award. Lilly was in a category of "greater than
one million hours worked" meeting all criteria.

Feature Presentation:
Specific
Topic: Respiratory Standard and Updates by Randy Beaver
29CFR1910.134 Respiratory Protection Standard sections were
reviewed. Randy shared information on the difference between
respirator requirements, fit testing, and qualitative/quantitative
testing. Discussed medical evaluation needs. Written programs
are mandatory when respirators are required to perform job. OSHA
website has a lot of information for respiratory requirements.
Maintenance of personal respirator (tight-fitting) is very important.
Perfume, makeup, shave lotion, etc......can add to deterioration.
