The
January meeting was held on the 9th at Subaru-Isuzu Automotive.
Randy Beaver, former President and present Trustee gave a
presentation on the OSHA 300 Log. He emphasized the difference between recordables and
compensability.
There
was a break at 12:30pm and Paul Felkey welcomed everyone to the first
meeting of GLASC for 2002.
This is the 22nd year of GLASC and in 1985 the first
workshop was held to promote safety in the community.

Paul
then introduced the officers for 2002 and asked each person to give a
brief overview of who they are and what their experience is.

Vice-President
– 13 years of experience at Eli Lilly and member of GLASC
for several years. |

Byrd,
Secretary
– Graduated in 1996 from Purdue University with a degree in
Environmental Health Sciences with a major of Industrial
Hygiene. Interned
with Allison Engine Company and Thomson Consumer Electronics
and then came to SIA and has been in the Safety &
Environmental Compliance Section for 5 years. |

Jean
Lear,
Treasurer
– is the Health Safety
and Environmental Coordinator
at CTS in W. Lafayette. She has been employed with CTS for 12
years.
She was an EMT for 23 years and worked as a volunteer for the
ambulance service in Carroll County. She lives in Delphi where
she is raising her 16 year old granddaughter and in her spare
time she coachs Special Handicapped
people in basketball, softball, bowling, football and
track and field. |

Drug Testing at Unity Medical Pavilion. |

Todd
Priest,
Trustee
– is
a Training Specialist, with the Training & Performance
Management Section at SIA.
Todd has been working at SIA for over 5 years and is
currently responsible for SIA’s Safety Training program as
well leadership and communication course.
Todd
is also a First Sergeant in the United States Army Reserve and
enjoys running and sporting events. |

we went around the room and everyone stated their name and the company
that they represent.
We
then approved December 2001 meeting minutes.

Lear gave the Treasurer’s report.

Old
Business:
Paul
announced that three dates are open for the 2002-meeting schedule if
anyone is interested in hosting a meeting.
These dates are June 12, October 9th, and November 13th.

E-mail
addresses are needed for all future correspondence. All invoices, newsletters, and company membership information
will be sent out electronically in 2002.
Please let Michelle Byrd know your e-mail address to update the
GLASC database.
Also,
some confusion has surfaced about the membership dues.
A company membership is $35.00.
This is the total cost for the company whether they wish to have
one person attend or three. This is a flat fee of $35.00.

New
Business:
The
Hoosier Safety Council will be in West Lafayette this year for the Annual
Meeting. This will be held at
the Cumberland Place in West Lafayette from April 30th – May
2nd. April 30th
will be Professional Development Seminars.
May
1st & 2nd will be General Sessions with a total of 72 to choice from.
Donna
Majewski
is the Vice-President of the Hoosier Safety Council and if anyone is
interested in speaking or having an exhibit – please contact Donna.
Mary
Smith
will be the head of the Lafayette Sub-Committee.

This
is a wonderful opportunity for the Greater Lafayette Area. Please make note of the dates for this Annual Meeting.
The
next meeting of GLASC will be at Caterpillar on February 13th
from 1 – 2:30pm. The topic
will be the Positive Safety Matrix system.
This will be at there Visitor’s Center.
There is no RSVP required and no lunch will be provided.
Also,
Paul announced that the March 13th meeting will be on Workplace
Violence. Officer Dan A.
Larson of the West Lafayette Police Department will present this seminar.
This seminar is being presented at no cost for GLASC members.
This will be held from 11 – 2:30pm at SIA’s Training and
Reception Center. He has
presented this training to over 2000 people and has received wide praise
from all over the state. If
interested in attending this seminar you must RSVP to Paul Felkey at
765-449-6234 by March 11th.

Speaker:
Randy
Beaver then continued his presentation discussing the proper way to count
days away from work cases. He
also discussed the different definitions of first aid.
Randy ended his presentation around 1:45pm.
