Paul Felkey gave the Treasurer’s report.  Paul announced that postage had been cut about in half from 2000 to 2001 due to all of the information on the meetings being posted on the website.

Randy Beaver thanked all of the 2001 officers for all of their hard work.  He then swore in the new slate of officers for 2002:

Secretary: Michelle Byrd – Subaru-Isuzu Automotive, Inc.
Treasurer:   Jean Lear – CTS RF Integrated Modules

Congratulations to all new elected officers.

A little background on Paul Felkey – Paul has spent the last five years as Treasurer for the GLASC.  Paul received his Bachelor’s in Occupational Safety & Health from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.  He then worked for IOSHA for two years after college and then came to Lafayette to work for SIA and has been at SIA for the last six years.

Paul Felkey passed around a sign up sheet for 2002 for companies to sign up to host meetings for 2002.  Paul also announced that the GLASC may begin to have meetings every other month but this will be discussed at a later date.  The meetings will continue to be the first Wednesday of every month for the Officer’s Meeting and the second Wednesday of every month for the regular GLASC meeting.

Randy Beaver then announced the guest speaker for the meeting.

Karl Ahlrichs, Director of Business Development at Marsh, USA.

Karl gave a power point presentation on Risk, Rewards, and Cannibalism – Modern Lessons of the Donner Party.

A brief summary of the presentation is to keep eight things in mind:

1)      Know the difference between perceived risk and actual risk

2)      Choose advisors wisely

3)       Don’t be trapped by possessions or old ways of thinking

4)      Manage conflict and stick together

5)      Diversity is an asset

6)      No matter how prepared you are, luck and forces outside of your control hold trump cards

7)      Adjust your priorities to the situation

8)      Don’t let egos interfere with choice of leader

The meeting concluded at 1:30pm.
